In 2012 I was asked to participate in a new reality TV show for the SLICE Network. The concept was simple. Get 3 designers in one work space. Get 1 bride. Give each designer 5 minutes to spend with the bride to figure out, her personality, her wants and her measurements. Than give them 1 week to design and sow a wedding dress from scratch. Than let the bride pick the winning wedding dress based on h0w close the designer came to meeting all her and wants.
Sounds simple and straight forward – but is it? I believe my job as a fashion designer is to listen to my customer’s needs and wants BUT than to interject my professional opinion to ensure the wedding dress she will be wearing is a compliment to her physique and personality. It’s my responsibility to tell the bride what she needs more than what she wants. Take a look at the video and see how I did.
Today’s Bride magazine also run a story on this episode in there Fall/Winter 2012 edition. It is found on page 240. Here’s a link to the article http://stage.canadianbride.com/articles/wedding-dress-wars-winning-designer-rod-philpott
